Soap Twins – Well, Not Really (1/2)

Did you ever notice that some soap actors look a lot alike? I thought it might be fun to compare a few that come to mind for me. Who knows? Maybe they won’t be as similar as I think.

Some of these are grasping at straws, but others are kind of interesting.

Recast.

I just want to preface this post by saying that I would never want anyone to be out of work. The thought of someone losing their job makes me sad.

Despite my misgivings, I was thinking about what out of work soap actors could join soaps in already established characters. I picked seven extremely recent actors who no longer work on soaps. Here is their casting.

The person who got me thinking this was . . .

. . . Dahlia Salem. I think she would make an amazing Greenlee Smythe. The actress has the look and is extremely charismatic. Plus, she has the acting chops to pull off the drama in Greenlee's life - - - could she handle the laughter? I would LOVE to see her in that role. Actually, I would just love to see her back on soaps.

But there is also . . .

. . . Megan Ward. Okay, admittedly this one is kind of a stretch. I was thinking that Megan would make a great Kelly Cramer. I think she has the range and the look. She is great with the drama, but also has comedic timing. She has chemistry with everyone - from Maurice Bernard to Blake Gibbons. To me, Megan is fiya.

What about . . .

. . . Melissa Claire Egan? She would be a great Siobhan McKenna - assuming she would be allowed to drop the accent. I often hate the character of Siobhan (actually, I have only liked her once, ever), but maybe Missy could bring an energy to it that I have yet seen. I would also like to see her act against another Lucky.  Also, if Missy were Siobhan, I might believe that there was more competition against Liz for Lucky's eventual affections.

And then there is . . .

. . . Kyle Lowder. He is another tough one. I have actually heard someone refer to the fact that Kyle was part of Daytime's Final Supercouple. Um, what? No. I did not see Kyle as Rick on B&B, but I remember him as Brady on DAYS. I don't know where I could picture Kyle after B&B. Maybe on AMC? There are a lot of women in their late 20's to early 30's over there who could use a leading man. The only character I could actually see him stepping into would be Daniel Jonas on DAYS. That would be really weird, but to me it is the only thing that works. Plus, last month we learned that DAYS isn't all that picky about actors playing characters that they already have established fan bases with. Hmm . . .

Not to mention . . .

. . . Jay Kenneth Johnson. The immediate thought for me was that he should play Daniel Romalotti on Y&R, but after some thought I decided that I want them to de-age Steve Webber on GH. I think that Jay would make a great sibling to Rebecca Herbst and bring some energy to the role of GH's chief of staff. I really think that would make a great recast!

Plus. . .

. . . Shelley Hennig. I really never give this girl credit for being as pretty as she is, but that will change. She is getting her own post soon. This girl is so freaking cute. Anyway, who should she play? Okay, I kind of have two roles for her. I have been hearing rumblings around the web about Starr Manning getting a recast (hello?!? what is with that?!?). Anyway, if she did I would imagine that they would age her. Perhaps they could age Dani Manning as well. I think that Shelley would make a cute Dani. Additionally, she would also make a good Brooklyn Ashton. That is another unnecessary at this time GH character, but she is on the canvas, so maybe. . .

And finally . . .

. . . Brittany Underwood. I have met Brittany in real life and she is a doll. I just really want to see this girl working again. Not sure if she will, because I got the impression that she wanted to stay in New York, but hey! You never know. I think she would make a good Stephanie Johnson on DAYS or Jana Hawkes on Y&R. Brittany still has the look of a teen, and OLTL has more teens on there scene than every other soap put together, so it is hard to find a place where Brittany would fit. The only other possibility would be Kristina Davis on GH. Actually, that could work . . .

Hmm . . . where would you like to see some of the out of work soap stars land?

Wynda-What?!? - Nikolas Cassadine About Tracy Quartermaine Moving In!

Beginning with both the awful and the awfully shocking – Tamara Braun is IN at Days of Our Lives, meanwhile Natalia Livingston is OUT. Tamara will be replacing Natalia in the role of Taylor. Tamara is best known to fans as Carly Corinthos from General Hospital. She is also fairly popular for playing the role of Reese on All My Children. Speaking of popular, have I mentioned that Tamara has won an Emmy? That’s right. She was playing Ava on Days of Our Lives. The Days of Our Lives that just hired her to play a completely non-related character. Right. . . and just for arguments sake – Natalia won an Emmy in the same category as Tamara FIRST.

Speaking of casting news, REBECCA HERBST IS STAYING AT GENERAL HOSPITAL! Liz is not being written out. You can thank her fans for that one! Though not a huge fan, I do love me some Lizzie when she actually has a storyline. I am looking forward to some great things with this character.

Tess is back on One Life to Live and I am not that happy. I will admit, that I don’t really care about this whole Jess needs to fight Natalie back . . . I am more upset about the fact that they keep telling the same story over and over again. Jess and her twin fight over a man (whether it be about is impending fatherhood or death) and Jess can’t handle it, so Tess takes over. Really? Really? Haven’t we seen this all before? I don’t know about you, but I am done with this character.

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day I thought I would share my favorite couple of the moments with you. This is fun for me. I get to share my opinion and be completely biased about it!

1. Patrick and Robin Drake (General Hospital) are my absolute favorites. They have been since they met and they will be . . . forever! Seriously, though, this Valentine’s Day was a great treat for P/R fans, because the couple broke up about six months ago and Patrick finally kissed his wife on this fated holiday. And she didn’t punch him! Might I take a ventured guess and say that the Character Assassination of Doctor Patrick Drake is on it’s way to being over? A girl can hope!
2. Scott Chandler and Madison North (All My Children) are also really great. Everytime I see them together, I swoon. It's sickly inappropiate. At first I was kind of hesitant, because I prefer characters who have family and connections to the canvas and Madison, though she has friends, has managed to lose all her family (though, I will say that I would be perfectly okay with it coming out that in some weird twist, Greenlee is not Jackson’s daughter, Madison is!). I also don’t really like Ryan. I refer to him, sometimes, as the Vortex of Suck. He seriously takes the fun out of everything; so when Ryan and Madison hooked up, I was disappointed. It got worse when the audience found out she was pregnant. Now, now (!) Scott is claiming to be her baby’s daddy, and Greenlee is blackmailing him into a relationship with Madison. I love it! Scott is so charming and enjoyable, and Madison is so sweet and innocent. It’s perfection. Bring it on!
3. Kevin Fisher and Chloe Mitchell (The Young and the Restless) kind of remind me of the two suckers who got picked last – except they are damn enjoyable. I love the fact that they were friends, and that he fell for her and she was scared and whatnot. It was really cute to see her chase him down on New Years Eve just to kiss him. They have a cute chemistry and I would love to see their story play out further.

Runner Up: John McBain and Kelly Cramer (One Life to Live) have not actually become a couple, yet. From a purely superficial standpoint, they would make a great duo!
