I hate spending more than $8.00 on a book. What can I say, I am cheap.
I hate when a book is advertised as "276 pages" and it is really "139 pages." I am talking to you, Wild Rose Press.
For someone who wants to be an indie author and who admires indie authors, I am very hesitant to step into that world.
Ebook publishers need to work harder on their covers. I mean, the future is in computer graphics. Please, step up to the plate here!
I do not want to waste my time reading a poorly edited book. Ever.
Don’t you hate when you read a summary and the book sounds amazing? I am talking about those times when the potential novel is only 13 pages long.
One of my biggest pet peeves (literally!): Animals playing an integral part in a romance.
I hate cougar novels. I don't want to see an older woman with a younger man. (The vice-versa is equally true.)
One time I took a chick lit book out of the library and thought it was a romance novel. It was early in the century and I was young and impressionable. To say that I was scarred for life is a bit of an understatement.
I have been known to detest a book based solely on the hero or heroine’s name.
I hate when people claim that a romance novel is predictable. I mean, you do know what the genre implies, right?
It took me three years to figure out what HEA actually meant. I knew it referred to the end of the book, but still . . .
An author should not be allowed to tease an upcoming book or specific storyline if they are not planning on writing it. It is 100% worse when the author takes a year off and then changes her name just to get away from having to follow through with the original plan. :::cough::: Geralyn Dawson/Emily March! :::cough:::
I like a series that has cohesive covers. I am not a fan when publishers change them midway through. (even when the change them for the better, like Rachel Gibson’s Writer Friends)
Shirtless men make me blush.

Marching to the Beat of Your Own Drum
This week I purchased a bunch of ebooks. I received a new ereader for my birthday earlier this year, and just got around to opening it. Anyway, to celebrate I bought eight new books.
. . . You know what I freaking hate?!? When Amazon.com reviewers and I do not see eye-to-eye. I am reading something that for the most part the reviewers recommended and, frankly, it is terrible. Like, seriously, I am no wondering how this author got published. Worst part? I bought four of her books. And I paid for each of them individually. They are not in a bundle. Ugh.
Speaking of bundles, in August of 2010, why did the Harlequin Blaze line stop producing them? Does anyone know? Really, I could use some help on this one. Thanks.
So, I was working on my writing this week. I was wondering, do people who read enjoy reading series of books? I do, but I don’t really know anyone else who does.
My story is clearly setting itself up to be a series.
If you do like reading series, what are some of your favorites?
I have two major favorites. One of them is, without a doubt, the I-Team series by Pamela Clare. I also love the first three books of the Holy Terrors series by Geralyn Dawson (please see below). I also like the Buchanon family restaurateurs by Susan Mallery, the Bodyguard series by Cindy Gerard and the Bellagio Shoes series by Leanne Banks.
One thing that irks me is when the stories in a series do not flow. In my opinion, the Holy Terrors series is the best example of this. The fourth book of the series, which I have not yet read, was so drastically different than the first three that the author felt she needed to CHANGE HER OWN NAME so that people would not walk into the novel expecting one thing and getting something completely different. I guess I commend her for that. My biggest gripe is that she did not just leave the third book in the series opened for a fourth – she practically wrote the intro to it. Why did she have to publish those last few pages? Why did she tease us with that?
PS: Her new name is Emily March, if you still want to read her work.
